Leadership Sprints

Rather than trying to implement multiple instructional techniques at once, which are bound to drop off when things get busy, you'll focus on one thing that will have the greatest impact on your students' outcomes before moving on to the next.

01

1st 90-minute online session

Leaders have a 90-minute online training session with Jocelyn to explore the topic, and prepare for the upcoming staff meeting (live, recorded).

02

You run your staff meeting

You run a 1-hour staff meeting with our resources and run sheets during a regularly scheduled staff meeting. Our proven process will help your team connect the topic with their own classroom practice.

03

2nd 90-minute online session

Leaders have a second 90-minute online training session with Jocelyn to develop your school-level documents for your chosen practice, templates supplied (live, recorded).

04

Clarity check-in with your team

You run a 30 minute clarity check-in with your team during a regularly scheduled staff meeting.

Plus

One-on-one coaching

Each sprint includes a one-on-one coaching session with Jocelyn to work on any area of your improvement journey.

Who Explicit Teaching in Action is for

Some or all of the following may sound like your school.

  • Explicit teaching is on your improvement plan, and you want to make real progress in 2027.
  • You've introduced engagement norms or instructional routines before and watched them drop off once the term got busy.
  • You'd rather implement one agreed practice properly than five things partially.
  • You have instructional or year-level leaders whose capability you want to build.
  • You want consistency across every learning area, not just literacy.
  • You want your whole staff involved, rather than a few people attending a course.
  • You have no relief teacher budget and no pupil-free days to spare.

What you have at the end of a sprint

Documented, contextualised and ready to use.

  • The what, how and why of your agreed practice, contextualised to your school and documented for your school guidelines.
  • A heat map identifying your team's problems of practice.
  • A completed staff session with run sheet and participant pages, so that your school can run it again with teams or the whole staff.
  • Protocol cards to bring clarity to your team about key, high-impact techniques.
  • Instructional agreement and action plan created with your team to promote full uptake.

Results are built through a shared vision of practice, not just programs.

Shared vision: build buy-in, gain knowledge, learn skills, create shared action plans, implement new approaches, sustain and refine practice over time, manage resources

Introduction to Responsive Instructional Leadership

Our introductory course on the journey we take through our professional development, where people get stuck, and what to do about it.

If you've ever wondered why people push help away when they need it most, why it's so hard to explain obvious things to a newbie, or why someone who knows what they are doing can't make a decision, then this is the course for you.

Every teacher and leader in your school is somewhere on that journey, and what helps a person at one stage will stall a person at another. The course gives your leadership team a shared way to recognise where someone is, and a shared language for talking about it. You start by working out where you are yourself, and leave with a plan for your own development before you use the approach with anybody else.

This is the perfect professional development for your instructional and team leaders to build their capability while doing the real work of their day-to-day roles. No time out of school. No pupil-free days needed.

At a glance

  • Three 90-minute online sessions, run live and recorded so nobody misses out.
  • Your whole leadership team, including year-level leaders. Up to 10 participants.
  • You leave with a plan for yourself, not just an understanding of the model.
  • Usually $439 per person. Included at no extra cost when you bundle all three sprints.
